Flameworking & Blown Glass
A glass artist for close to 20 years, Peter Zimmerman makes glass jewelry, animals and figures with a technique called flameworking, manipulating small rods of colored glass in the concentrated blast of fire from a small torch. His blown-glass vases, bowls and vessels are beautiful as well as functional.
The artist says that working with glass is “equal parts science, athletic achievement and imaginative discovery” for him. His imagination and sense of humor are apparent in his tiny pigs with wings, angelfish, frogs, turtles, adorable penguins, dogs, sheep and now unicorns. His earrings, necklaces and key rings are laced with color and glow in the light. Originally from Washington State, Peter has his studio in Lowell where he also lives.
