“I learned to felt in 1977 and never stopped,” Susan Tornheim says. Felting is the process, thousands of years old, of making wool fibers tangle into a dense fabric using soap, hot water, friction, and pressure. “Wool felt is a wonderful fabric! It’s very warm and resilient and sheds water and snow,” she explains. “I love to make warm winter hats with a felted top and a hand-knit bottom and often embellish the hats with antique buttons and hand embroidery. My other work includes felted flower pins, felted balls (great for massage!), pillows, and other items.”
