Alice Templeton is a Boston based functional potter and sculptor. She has been working in clay for over 30 years.  She was first inspired as a child by a potter at a craft fair, and has had her hands in clay ever since.

Her interest in birds and animals stems from a childhood longing for companionship.  Making miniature animals began as a comfort and has evolved into a way to explore her deep love of animals and birds while also enhancing her connection to them.

Alice has always been fascinated by the myriad patterns and textures found in the natural world, and she enjoys incorporating them into her work.  She aspires to make work that is both functional and sculptural.

She frequently does this by using sculptural elements with wheel thrown forms, such as vases and casserole dishes.

Alice believes we are a part of nature, not the rulers of it.  Through her artwork she hopes to help people experience the beauty and magic of the natural world and work to preserve it.

Alice is studio potter at Mudflat Studios in Somerville, MA and has been since 2012.  She studied art and biology while pursuing her BA in psychology at Smith College in Massachusetts.  She has taken numerous classes and workshops in ceramics.
