April brings April Fool’s Day, showers, flowers, and religious holidays, which work out well as the rain encourages the flowers that then beautify the holidays. Our Artists of the Month in April create work that fits perfectly into this time of year.
Jeanne Heos works in Fluid Art, a form of abstract art in which she pours acrylic paint to create unique, colorful compositions. Sealing the art with resin to protect it, Jeanne’s coasters, trivets, turntables, trays, and glass and wood containers are eye-catching and very functional, useful for holiday gatherings.
Eggs and Easter have a long association. Julia Tenney creates pysanky, traditional Ukrainian decorated eggs. These colorful eggs have intricate designs created using a batik dyeing process. The war in Ukraine led to her first real opportunities to meet many other pysanky artists, and thus opened up a world of new techniques with the wax-resist process. A portion of her pysanky sales are donated to vetted groups helping to defend and rebuild Ukraine.
