Our Artists of the Month in May, Mary Eng and Sholeh Regna, work in a wide variety of mediums.
Decades ago, Mary Eng was inspired to work in ceramics after seeing a turquoise pottery vase in a shop. She makes ceramics at Mudflat and at her home studio. Her work includes mugs, cheese plates, covered casseroles, and small pots. She also loves creating collages using magazines, tissue paper, photos, paste, and paints that she copies and makes into greeting cards.
Sholeh Regna is a multimedia artist. At her studio in Somerville she creates her artwork as well as teaching sculpture classes. Sculpture, painting, and jewelry have been the main themes of her art practice for the past 35 years. Her jewelry is in two mediums, porcelain and marbled birch wood. She uses 22K gold and white gold on her porcelain jewelry. Her birch jewelry is marbled using an ancient technique of painting on water called Ebru. They are double-sided and reversible.
